CHANDIGARH: Amid honour killings in Haryana, a lover couple in Jind town committed suicide on Monday. The couple - Kawalpriya and Devender Singh - was from the same caste and pursuing BCom in different colleges of the town. Their families - who live in different localities of Jind - confirmed that there was an affair between them but denied opposing the alliance, said police sources. Kawalpriyas mother told the police that she was aware about her affair, but insisted that there was no pressure on the girl for anything, said Jind deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Adarshdeep Singh. The family had lodged a complaint with the police on Sunday, after Kawalpriya did not return till late. Before leaving home on Sunday, Devender had told his parents that he was going to donate blood at a camp. The young lovers were found lying in the fields of neighbouring Bishnpura village. While Kawalpriya was already dead, Devender was admitted in a private hospital in a serious condition. However, doctors declared him dead soon after. Police believe the couple committed suicide by consuming poison. There bodies have been handed over to their family members after postmortem.
