CHANGE POLICE RECRUITMENT POLICY There is a lot of factors associated with high incidents of Police Brutality. The compounding factor which requires careful attention through prompt policy shift is the recruitment process. It is noted that over the last three years of intensive police recruitment to increase the manpower to 10, 000 under the governments direction has taken the police management by surprise. There was no review undertaken to ensure transparency in the recruitment exercises to ensure fit, proper persons and with merits corresponding to the set criteria were recruited to undertake basic police training. The above oversight compromised the entire process resulted in ill qualified school leavers being recruited and processed through police constable training. It is also noted that a handful of the recruit forged school certificates. Whilst others were rated failers who could not make to tertiary schools or colleges. Half of those recruited were sons and daughters of former police officers, serving members and of course children of people in high positions both in public and private sectors. You can now imagine the flow of systematic compromise undertaken to recruit ill suited people to the call of this noble profession. The undisciplined of those recruited with the pride of others were all taken on board. The by product of six months of basic police training is more than disaster for this nation thus there is high incidences of police brutality in our society in this modern time which is putting the in the limelight both within and abroad. Therefore it is hereby suggested that the current police recruitment policy be abolished and consideration of recruiting straight from the school must be adopted. This will give rise to stop compromise through ilicit practices by both recruiters and recruit for better service in law enforcement for a better tomorrow. This is a serious business to consider.
