CHAPMAN BREAKS STRIKEOUT RECORD In tonights 6-5 win over the Pirates, Reds closer Aroldis Chapman set a new Major League Baseball record for relievers by recording a strikeout in 40 consecutive appearances. The previous record of 39 was held by Hall of Famer Bruce Sutter. During those 40 appearances, the Cuban Missile has struck out 83 batters in 42 innings pitched. An All-Star for the third consecutive season this year, Chapmans streak began on Aug. 21, 2013. Chapman also owns the fourth-longest streak of 34 games, which took place from Sept. 15, 2011 to June 16, 2012.
