CHAPTER 6 THE SECOND GREAT WAR: Years went by each nation continued to grow until their borders met. Theos and Deroc continued to grow under the ever watchful eye of Shien. Theos grew stronger and faster, some thought him a bit reckless, but his knowledge and skill with a sword was something that could not be taught and was hard to match. Deroc was quiet and fast, he let his actions speak and so he was a bit of a show off. The two brothers where very close and feared nothing when fighting side by side. By the time they where men the fragile peace between the growing nations had been broken. Great responsibility was placed on the shoulders of the two brothers as many remembered what their parents had done. They were chosen to lead the Arenam and Gemnio in the hopes that the 2 nations would remain great allies during this uncertain time. During the chaos of the war many men made a reputation for themselves, but none more so than Theos, as the next Arenam king. A valley country to the west of Arenam desert sent an army to try and take advantage of the fact that Arenam troops where spread out protecting the desert and capture the Arenam fortress. Theos went out into the desert to meet them with a small group of men. It is said that he ran right into the midst of the invading army, blazing a path straight through them. Then he turned and with a flick of the wrist killed them all with their own blood. He left only one alive, the captain of the army, who ran back to his kingdom telling of the “silver demon of the sands” following him. The king of that land had a sorcerer cast a spell of eternal life upon the kingdom. Eternal life however, came at a terrible price. The people where changed their flesh stripped from their bodies. They became living skeletons unable to die but not truly living. Theos was much like his father brilliant, strong, nearly unbeatable in combat, and fearless, like his mother, having inherited her wild streak. This served him well during the years of war. To make peace Theous went alone to see the king of Pious. The king of pious was a brilliant and great king at one time, but now he had become a greedy war monger. Pious was a rich and powerful nation at the time it had connections to almost all of the great nations through war or trade. Theos knew that if there was to be any peace he would need them as an ally. “What business do you have hear desert filth.” The dragon king growled as looked down his nose at Theos. Theos looked around and could feel it, the same darkness that had taken his brother that night. He could see the king had a dark heart and would gladly have all his subjects die before ending the war. He noticed to the left of the king stood a dragon demon that he had met once before on the battle field. “Why are you hear!” the king snarled once more. “I have come to strike a truce.” Theos replied as he bent his knee and lowered himself to the ground. The dragon king came down from his thrown, looked at Theos and began to laugh. “Even the great king of the desert is bowing before my power.” he roared as he turned his back to Theos, who took out 2 daggers and caught the king from behind slitting open both his stomach and his throat. Then turning to the mass of knights looking to avenge the death of their king he drew his sword and yelled “Stop I have come not to take your nation from you but to bring peace by giving you a new king.” Many of the knights stopped where they stood and looked to the king’s guard for guidance. “he shall be recognized by the great nations as the new king of Pious,” Theos said as he pointed to the king’s guard, “What is your name young knight I have seen you display both great courage and wisdom on the field of battle.” “I am called Daphinious.” The dragon replied. “Daphinios from this day forth you shall rule as the new king of Pious.” Theos declared then added as he felt the opposition of the other knights “lest it should meet a terrible fate.”
