CHARITY STARTS AT HOME, The neediest in our community need our help! I had the pleasure of volunteering today a few blocks from where we live, for the Americas Youth Inc. located at the corner of Indigo and S. 11th St., in Fernandina Beach. The Americas Youth Inc. offer community services to our neediest neighbors, by providing a safe place for children to go after school and on Saturdays. They provide not only guidance, but a safe, fun, and educational environment for these beautiful children. Free of charge, while their parents work. What a great charity and a delightful group of polite and well mannered children! However, for their health, happiness and education I am asking for an outreach. There are many things this non-profit group needs to function. I am giving what I can physically, though there is a list of l things that I have come up with, that they are in desperate need of and they cost money. I am asking my Facebook friends and local community for help. FOR THEIR HEALTH: We are in need of cleaning supplies. Here is my list: Most important, for our communitys health, we need gallons of bleach. Bleach kills viruses and bacteria. Hand sanitizer, we live in a world where pandemics are a threat. They have commercial soap dispensers, but no soap. They have commercial paper towel dispensers, but no paper towels. So if you know anyone in the service industry that can provide these, oh how awesome! Toilet paper and paper towles. They need an 11 lb. mop head. A new Swiffer jet with the cleanser would be so nice. Pinesol, Lemon Pledge or pledge substitute. Windex, scrubbers, and rags. We want all children to have a clean environment. Supplies may be dropped off Monday through Saturday between the hours of 10:00am to 4:00pm. FOR EDUCATION: Time, any retired educators, such as teachers, professors, mathematicians, authors, musicians, visual artist, CEOs, Lawyers, Doctors, House keeping, anyone that can bring anything to the table and volunteer, to help mentor these children will be greatly appreciated. Any free time whether it be one hour a month, or one hour a week. There is a piano, and a computer lab at the Americas Youth Inc. My husband plans on contributing by starting a Chess Club. We are the parents of four boys on this Island, ages 7, 9, 10, and 11. We know the importance of mentoring our future generations. We want to leave this world a better and safer place, but, we cant do it all by our selves. We need these children as well. FOR HAPPINESS AND FURTHER EDUCATION: The children need the following: They have a Wii, but no games, or controllers. The few board games I saw, were empty. Board games please! Lets get them off computers sometimes. Art supplies. A shed for their community bicycles that were piled up in the restrooms. Paper, crayons, markers, paint. Chess games. Chess teaches strategy, and critical thinking skills. If you feel the need to donate to these inspiring children, and are not local, you can send a check to Americas Youth Inc. at 907 South 11th St. Fernandina Beach, FL 32034.
