CHARLES BRONSON The original “Action Hero”. He was doing it “way” before that term was “coined”. Born “Charles Dennis Buchinsky” in November 3rd, 1921, in Ehrenfeld, Pennsylvania, he was a master of the “Western”, and the “Revenge” flick, He was the 11th of 15 children born to a Lithuanian immigrant father. When Bronson was 10 years old, his father died. Young Charles went to work in the coal mines, first in the mining office and then in the mine. He earned one dollar for each ton of coal that he mined. He worked in the mine until he entered military service during World War II. His family was so poor that, at one time, he reportedly had to wear his sisters dress to school because of his lack of clothing. “Charlie” wasn’t just a “tough guy” on screen, he grew up that way, and “lived it”. In 1943, Bronson enlisted in the United States Army Air Forces and served as an aerial gunner in the 760th Flexible Gunnery Training Squadron, and in 1945 as a Boeing B-29 Superfortress crewman with the 39th Bombardment based in Guam. Bronson flew 25 missions and received a Purple Heart for wounds received in battle. Charles Bronson has 163 acting credits, with some 95 movies alone. Some of these are television roles. Early in his career, he acted under the name Charles Buchinsky. His career began on television in 1949 and ended upon his death in 2003, at age 81. (Reg/COA included) …
