CHARLES CITY—The Oelwein Huskies (9-15 for the season) won one of four volleyball matches at Saturday’s Charles City tournament. The Huskies dropped decisions to Wapsie Valley (rated 14th in Class 2A), 12-21, 11-21, and Janesville (rated second in Class 1A), 11-21, 6-21, beat AGWSR, 23-21, 21-18, and lost to South Winneshiek, 22-25, 25-27. Nikki Burgin had three kills for the Huskies against Wapsie Valley, while Ashley Tuecke collected two and Maura Moeller, Katie Stewart and Alexis Youngblut one each. Katelyn Forsyth handed out seven assists from her setter spot. Forsyth went 7-for-7 serving, Youngblut and Moeller 3-for-4, Hannah Meyer and Nikki Burgin 3-for-3 and Stewart 2-for-2. Nikki Burgin and Meyer both notched four digs, Youngblut and Natalie Bradley two apiece and Rachel Burgin one. Top performers for the Huskies against Janesville were Bradley (two digs), Nikki Burgin (one kill, one dig and 1-for-1 serving), Forsyth (one kill, four assists and 3-for-3 serving), Meyer (one dig and 2-for-2 serving), Moeller 1-for-1 serving), Amy Roete (one dig), Stewart (5-for-5 serving), Tuecke (one kill) and Youngblut (two kills, five digs and 4-for-4 serving). Nikki Burgin had seven kills for the Huskies against AGWSR. Meyer and Moeller both tallied three, while Youngblut had two. Forsyth put up 15 assists. Serving one ace each for the Huskies were Moeller (6-for-8 overall) and Meyer (7-for-7). Forsyth went 9-for-9, Youngblut 7-for-7, Nikki Burgin 4-for-6 and Stewart 5-for-5. Nikki Burgin had a good defensive performance at the net with seven blocks. Forsyth and Moeller had two each, while Meyer and Stewart garnered one each. Bradley and Nikki Burgin both had three digs, Forsyth and Youngblut two each and Danielle Kanour, Meyer and Roete one apiece. Leaders for the Huskies against South Winneshiek were Bradley (four digs), Nikki Burgin (six kills, four digs, one block and 6-for-8 serving), Rachel Burgin (three kills, one dig and 4-for-4 serving with three aces), Forsyth (15 assists, two digs and 8-for-8 serving with one ace), Carlee Glenn (one kill and two digs), Heidi Kalb (2-for-3 serving), Meyer (two digs and 7-for-7 serving with one ace), Moeller (two kills, one block and 3-for-4 serving), Stewart (three kills, one dig, one block and 3-for-3 serving), Tuecke (one kill, four digs and 1-for-3 serving) and Youngblut (one kill and 5-for-6 serving with one ace).
