CHARLIE CRIST TOP-LINE MESSAGE POINTS Nov 4, 2013 CHARLIE CRIST: POLITICAL OPPORTUNIST • By trying to regain his old position that he once abandoned, Charlie Crist has proven to Floridians to be a pure political opportunist. • He is a career politician – a serial politician – who always seeks to use his current position purely as a stepping stone to the next job he wants. • In politics, there are those who want to do something and there are those who want to be something. Charlie Crist’s political history shows that his interests lie in having the title of governor, but not governing and focusing on the needs of Floridians. • Floridians simply cannot trust Charlie Crist again as governor. CHARLIE CRIST: FAILED GOVERNOR • Under Charlie Crist, Florida lost 832,000 jobs in four years. • Florida’s unemployment rate more than tripled – from 3.5 percent to 11.1 percent. • This was part of a national and global economic recession, but the 7.6 percentage point increase in Florida was the second largest jump in unemployment out of all 50 states. • Charlie Crist’s failed leadership led to Florida sinking faster and farther than most other states in the country. • Charlie Crist also left Florida with a $5.2 billion increase in state debt, and massive billion-dollar budget deficits. • Crist left the state of Florida in worse shape economically and fiscally by the end of his term. CHARLIE CRIST: ABANDONED FLORIDA • Instead of focusing on economic solutions for Florida, Charlie Crist decided to abandon his post as governor and campaign for the United States Senate. • Because he can’t govern, Charlie Crist did what he does best: political campaigning. • He not only abandoned Florida by running for the Senate; he also broke his promise of never running as an independent, doing what he thought was best for himself. • Like many career politicians, he sought what he thought were greener pastures in Washington, DC. This comes as no surprise because he and his friends made it very clear he was trying to be John McCain’s vice-presidential nominee, and even thinking about running for president as a Republican in 2012.
