CHECK THIS OUT... friends.. Forensic psychology is the practice of psychology as applied to the justice system. This is a field where a psychologist will use his expertise to assess the people involved in a court case and convey his findings to a jury or judge. Forensic psychology is a demanding field that provides a much-needed service in the justice system. The use of forensic psychology in the justice system dates back to the start of the 19th century. In his study of memory, William Stern, a German psychologist, asked his students to study a picture for 45 seconds and recall what they saw. His work is closely related to later studies that would evaluate the reliability of eyewitnesses. He discovered the more time that had elapsed between viewing the picture and the questioning, the more unreliable the person became. Hugo Munsterberg, an American psychologist, wrote a book called On the Witness Stand in 1908, in which he discussed issues like the reliability of the witness, confessions and criminal investigation. The purpose of forensic psychology is to understand why specific crimes occurred. The field is also concerned with preventing crime and reducing the negative impact of a crime that has occurred. A forensic psychologist may analyze patterns of criminal activity and work with law enforcement to develop and evaluate crime prevention programs.
