CHELSEA TRANSFORMING ‘NJURI NCHEKE’ SQUAD TO YOUNG LADS When - TopicsExpress

CHELSEA TRANSFORMING ‘NJURI NCHEKE’ SQUAD TO YOUNG LADS When I started watching Chelsea in 2006, I could hardly spot young players that likes of Arsenal boasted for. By then, Kenyan fans particularly anti Blues followers referred to the Stamford Bridge outfits as Njuri Ncheke (Ameru council of elders) owing to the old players it had then. Under Jose Mourinho between 2004 and 2007, young players like Gael Kakuta had no place at the club and if the management bought them, they would be further loaned somewhere to gain ‘experience’. This philosophy seemed to work well for the ‘Special One’ in that period since he managed to win 2 league titles, league cups and an array of silverware. The philosophy of transition from the old guards to’ young boys’, was a plan of Villas- Boas who was hired in 2011 with the idea to evolve the system and style of Chelsea play but failed only eight months later. Instead of the young Portuguese tactician to go by the wishes of his bosses, he opted to go for revolution something that made him fall out with the owner who never hesitates to sack his managers whenever he wishes. Under Roman Empire at the Bridge, nine managers have come and gone and this has opened a reunion door for Mr. Abromavich and Mourihno after six years. It is now clear that the now self proclaimed ‘happy one’ is going to work with relatively young, talented and inexperienced players. Having Cesar Azpilicueta, Juan Mata, Oscar, Van Ginkel, Andre Schurle, Hazard brothers, Lukaku, Bruma, the Portuguese coach will be forced to change his game plans and approaches that he used when he had ‘old’ players since there is a distinction between those sects of players in terms of game mentality and maturity. At Arsenal, we have seen young players fail to win the club any piece of success for nine years and therefore it is my humble submission that the Blues’ fans should not expect immediate success since Mourinho needs to put some things in place to start thinking of winning trophies but if it comes sooner, the better. Remember, they say the Blues never lose.
