CHESS FIDE AWARDS BOTLHOLE AND FRANCIS WITH WOMAN INTERNATIONAL MASTER (WIM) TITLES The World Chess Federation (FIDE) has awarded Kgalalelo Botlhole and Onkemetse Francis with Woman International Master (WIM) Titles.Kgalalelo Botlhole’s award follows furtherrelease of the 2014 Zone 4.3 Chess Championships titles. Botlhole finished joint 2nd with Francis, after WIM Denise Frick of South Africa, both finishing with a % score of 67. Since the champion of the tournament already had a WIM title, FIDE awarded the title to the runner ups who were on joint 2nd. WIM Kgalalelo Botlhole is currently also playing very well on board 4 of the Botswana Ladies Olympiad Team, with a performance score of 83% so far,(after round 7). The World Chess Olympiad is currently taking place in Tromso, Norway and has attracted best of the best chess players from 174 countries. FIDE has also upgraded Onkemetse Francis from a WFM to a WIM Status. Francis also finished 2 (she was on joint 2nd with Kgalalelo Botlhole) to an already WIM, Denise Frick of South Africa ,with a 67% performance score at the Zonals in Namibia and was honoured with a WFM Title. She iscurrently board 3 of The Botswana Ladies Team competing at The 2014 Chess Olympiad. This now brings the total number of WIMs in Botswana to 4, (others are WIM Boikhutso Modongo and WIM Tshepiso Lopang). The increase in number of titled playersin Botswana will have a positive impact on the quality of international players Botswana tournaments will attract. Batswana players also now stand good chances of receiving increased invitations to international events. OLYMPICS The 2014 Youth Olympic games Nanjing team is scheduled to depart tomorrow ,12th August at 08:45 hours, where they will travel to Johannesburg, Singapore and Shanghai before proceeding to Nanjing.
