CHIARI AWARENESS TOUR MEMORIES: Part 6 By PETE DAL BELLO People are often surprised to learn that whenever I give a speech or talk to a group that there is never anything written down. While I have some ideas about what I will talk about, everything comes straight from my heart. I spoke at the International Chiari Walk on September 13 at William P. Harris Park in Council, Virginia. I knew that I was in Coal Country and this part of the United States is special to me because, as many of you already know, my grandfather was a coal miner in McComas, West Virginia in the 1920s. My father and his oldest sister were both born in McComas. Also, thanks to this walk being a part of the first-ever Chiari Awareness Tour, I was able to visit McComas for the first time. Pictured here is a photo of myself and International Chiari Association (ICA) Chiari Advisor/Columnist Samantha Tiller. There are also pictures of the T-shirt and bracelet from the event, as well as two pins from the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA). It was Tiller that organized this event and I mentally took notes for ideas for the ICAs annual Chiari Awareness Celebration back in Santa Barbara, California. I often talk about the ICA being a family and how we like family-friendly events. Well, this event was both family and friendly. When I first walked in, a smiling man approached me and extended his hand while saying, You must be Pete. We shook hands and I attended an event with excellent food, music, various booths and much more. During my speech, I spoke for 10 minutes about Chiari, the ICA, Coal Country, Tiller and my Chiari Journey.
