CHICAGO-AREA GRAD STUDENTS WORKING IN URBAN STUDIES/COMMUNITY STUDIES: NU Sociology Departments Urban and Communities workshop - The workshop will be held on Tuesday evenings this year in Parkes Hall 222, alternating weeks with the Ethnography workshop. However, please note that the first meeting of the fall quarter is an exception and will be held on Wednesday the 24th of September at 6PM in the Sociology Departments seminar room in 1812 Chicago Ave. - Continuing with last years tradition, the workshop will largely be paper--rather than Power Point--driven, meaning that for most speakers, we will circulate a working paper to workshop participants in advance of the meeting, and then the meeting will be an opportunity to discuss and provide feedback on the paper. - Pizza and beverages will be provided at all meetings with the exception of RSVP-only meetings, in which case a full (vegetarian/vegan-friendly) dinner will be provided. - If you are interested in presenting at the workshop in the Winter or Spring quarters, please email us at urbancommunityworkshop@gmail. Appropriate projects will be working drafts of would-be article manuscripts or book/dissertation chapters. We are methodologically agnostic and welcome a wide range of quantitative, qualitative, and more theoretically-driven projects that are united substantively under the (rather broad) urban and communities studies umbrella. We also wanted to give everyone the opportunity to be on the workshops list serve, designed for those who intend to be regular workshop participants. Folks on the list serve will receive papers to be work-shopped in advance of each meeting. Additionally, list serve subscribers will be they be given opportunities to attend RSVP-only meetings as well as opportunities to meet one-on-one with visiting professors. Please email urbancommunityworkshop@gmail with the subject line Add to List serve if you would like to be added. If you were on the list serve last year, you will automatically be on the list serve this year, unless you ask us to remove you. Please direct all workshop questions to the Gmail address provided. Looking forward to a great year!
