CHIEFS & YOUTH OF KROBO ISSUE A 7-DAY ULTIMATUM TO ELECTORAL COMMISSION …within which to officially announce the date for the assembly elections in the municipality Wednesday September 25, 2013, Odumase-Krobo: The chiefs and youth of the Manya Krobo Traditional Area have issued a seven day ultimatum to the Electoral Commission within which to officially announce the date for the assembly elections in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality. They said if after the seventh day the EC still remains adamant, they will once again boycott the payment of all tolls (which constitute internally generated funds on which the Municipal Assembly runs) among several other aggressive campaigns lined up to demand their constitutional rights. In a letter dated Tuesday September 24, 2013 addressed to the Chairman of the Electoral Commission, they categorically stated that the date for the election must not be later than Friday October 25, 2013 which is the day for the grand durbar for this year’s annual Ngmayem Festival. The Chief of Akuse who doubles as the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Manya Krobo Traditional Council, Nene Asada Ahor I, said “We are no longer coming to the Electoral Commission or the Local Government Ministry to plead for the election; we are compelled to demand that it be held and we will do so using all means available to us”. “It is almost three years since the election was suspended and over a year since the Supreme Court ruled on the boundary dispute which caused the suspension and so we see no reason why the EC and the Local Government Ministry are refusing to give a date for the elections even after the presidency has given the clearance. If after 7 days no date is officially communicated to us, we will give the campaign a revolutionary push”, he added. The Commissioner of Kloma Gbi, Mr. Philip Tetteh Padi said “We the youth are solidly rallying behind our chiefs to take the crusade to a new height, if that is what will draw public and national attention to our plight”.
