CHINA ALREADY WON ITS RIVALRY WITH THE US BUT ... by Jose Rizal M. Reyes / August 19, 2014 / this was originally a comment China was already winning its rivalry with the US -- making great strides in economics, sports, engineering, space exploration, etc. All it had to do was stick to its peaceful rise of China mode and let the officious and domineering US be opposed in all points of the globe. If China would utter from time to time a few sympathetic words for countries that got issues with the US, that would have been a blockbuster. But suddenly, as if afraid it might be left behind by the gravy train, Chinas communist leaders threw the won game away. First, it engaged the Philippines in what is known as the Scarborough standoff of 2012. Scarborough shoal -- thats where the peaceful rise of China mantra lies dead and buried. Then, as if embarrassed that it was seen tangling with a pipsqueak country like the Philippines, China took on Japan by reviving their dispute over some islets. Not to be outdone, another military region sent some troops deep within Indian territory. With that triple whammy of insane aggressiveness, China suddenly found itself unpopular and hated in its own neighborhood. The sum total of this is that instead of marching steadily to its coveted global primacy and glorious destiny, the autistic Middling Kingdom suddenly slipped into the status of ex-future leading superpower of the world. China will never become the worlds Number One. It cant even now become the regional leader because many countries in the region will not follow its leadership and will even oppose it. Too bad because all it had to do to win its rivalry with the US was to let the latter fall by itself -- both from Americas diminishing economic clout and the growing anti-US domineering sentiment around the world. But because China showed its evil side too early, the US suddenly became cuddly allies by comparison. So now, in a sudden and dizzying change of fortune, it is China that is beginning to be opposed in all points of the globe even as America improves its relations both with old friends and former enemies.
