CHINOOK SCHOOL DIVISION SPORTS REPORT Submitted by Deb Reamer, Athletic Coordinator As the school year draws to a close, we would like to thank all the coaches and athletes for another successful year. Many schools will be celebrating their students’ achievements at the annual awards programs. The following were the individual winners of our SWAC/SHSAA awards: The Outstanding Female/Male Coach Awards go those individuals who conduct an outstanding program where student athletes learn a vast amount about the game and life. These coaches act as proponents of good sportsmanship and instill these ideals through their coaching and interaction with athletes. This year’s recipients are James and Donda Lee Deis of Fox Valley. Both James and Donda Lee have been involved for many years with both the junior and senior curling teams from Fox Valley School. Congrats to both of them! The Outstanding Official Award goes to the individual who contributes to the SWAC district by providing a valuable service to the activities offered by the District. They act as a proponent of good sportsmanship by officiating with these ideals in mind whenever officiating. This year’s recipient is Gaylene Senft from Maple Creek. Gaylene has been involved for many years officiating volleyball. Congrats Gaylene! The Service Award honors those people who have provided outstanding leadership and service and the promotion of high school athletics in the District. This year’s SWAC winner is Kyle McIntyre of Chinook S.D. central office (Swift Current). Kyle has been involved in all levels of athletics – from coach to official to serving on the SHSAA executive council. Congrats Kyle! We also had two Southwest teachers receive awards at the annual SPEA (Saskatchewan Physical Education Association) conference in May. The Southern Local Initiative Award recognizes individuals, schools or school divisions for their contributions to physical education in their respective region. The recipient this year was Janna Walker from Swift Current Comp. Congratulations Janna! Jennifer Foley (Shaunavon High School) has been awarded the Physical and Health Education Canada Physical Educator Teaching Excellence (PETE) Award. This award honours exceptional teachers (one from each province) for their excellence in teaching physical education and their ability to motivate children and youth to participate in physical activity. Congrats Jenn! We would like to thank our SWAC executive from the past two years: President – Terry Ross (Ponteix) Vice President – Marc Benjamin (Consul) Secretary – Amy Jago (Waldeck) and Patti Shannon (Hazlet) Treasurer – Trish Carleton (Ponteix) Officials’ Commissioner – Todd Anaka (Maple Creek) Thank you for all your hard work over the past 2 years! We welcome our new executive for the 2013/14 and 2014/15 school years: President – Marc Benjamin (Consul) Vice President – Alisa Cooper (Cabri) Secretary – Len Fyfe (Frontier) Treasurer – Jamee Coupe (Val Marie) Officials’ Commissioner – Todd Anaka (Maple Creek) Hope everyone has a great summer holiday!
