CHRISTMAS STORY POST #1 THE WHY AND HOW OF CHRISTMAS BY DAVID WATERS Award winning religious expert David Waters (former religious writer for the Washington Post) does not understand the birth of Christ. In 2005, I read a newspaper article written by Waters entitled The why, the how of Christmas. In his article, Mr. Waters makes the following statement about Christmas: “Even the Gospel writers couldnt agree on how the story starts.” Waters actually went on to say that the birth of Jesus was attended by three kings in one Gospel, and In another Gospel, it was shepherds who witnessed the miracle of Christ’s birth. Waters explains that in one story (book of Matthew) Mary and Joseph lived in a house in Bethlehem and then flee to Egypt. In the other story (Luke) Mary and Joseph are migrants who can’t find room at an inn, so Mary has the baby in a manger before they quietly return to Nazareth. Which is correct? Was Jesus born in a manager or in a house? I also previously had an atheist once tell me that he does not read the Bible because it is full of contradictions. I asked him to give me one specific example. He pointed out the same stories as stated by Waters. I told the atheist that I would call him back as soon as I found and read the two passages. I called him back in about an hour or so and told him he was absolutely right. I will not post the my answer to this atheist until tomorrow so you will have time to research it yourself.
