CHRONICLE OF MALLU NAMES (Another attempt @ Mallu Baiting) Couple of days ago, an old friend of mine who is now a prominent socio- political figure in Kerala, visited me in my office. While chatting casually, he exhorted me to join his political movement, as a way to serve the deserving masses. But a name like JAYASEKHAR wont go well with the masses he quipped. If you want to make it big in Mallu Society, Your name should have a high sounding name with the name of your native place or family name as your surname he argued.Mallus have an innate pride and egoistic hang up about their names. He quoted examples:- Vayalar Ravi Pinarai Vijayan Shashi Tharoor (Tharavad name) Thampanoor Ravi Panniyan Raveendran Madhu Ambattu ( Tharavad Name) Ramu Kariatt Chalai Mohan ( You will never find a PATIALA Manmohan Singh or SURAT Narendra Modi) Ok, Fine, so how do I Mallusize my name ? I gave him a few suggestions :- Sasthamangalam Sekhar- Sounded too plain Maruthumkuzhy Jayan- the Kuzhy- pit ,sounded negative Jayan Chirayinkizhu(native village)- Keezhu- under the pond , sounded inauspicious Puthenveetil Jayan(Maternal Tharavadu)- Puthen sounded like Neo rich Jayan Karali( Paternal Tharavadu)- Karali sounded like Neerali - the monster Vettamukku Jayan (current place of residence)- probably sounded apt to my friend that Vettamukku sounded macho & intimidating too. So if I have to live life king size in the Mallu jungle better be rechristened with a fearsome ferocious name.
