CHULA VISTA NEIGHBORHOOD PARK REVITALIZED BY VOLUNTEERS Chula Vista is fortunate to have 52 beautiful and well maintained parks but one park in particular will be soon be receiving a complete over haul of its playground. Hilltop Park, located at 780 Hilltop Drive, is the beneficiary of more than 200 volunteers who will be installing the new equipment on Saturday, August 3. In less than eight hours, the playground will be transformed by volunteers from non-profit KaBOOM!, Foresters, a life insurance provider, the Turning the Hearts Center and the City. The new playground equipment will provide recreational facilities for young and older children and will feature equipment for children of all ages and abilities. Some new features in the 4,500 square-foot playground will include Triple Racer Slide, Rockblocks Climbing Wall and Scavenger Hunt. It will also include the installation of engineered wood fiber playground surfacing. Hilltop Park’s playground equipment was over 30 years old and in real need of replacement. Planning for the new playground began in June with community leaders and organizers from KaBOOM! and Foresters asking local children to provide drawings which were used to create the final playground design. Weekly planning meetings have led up to “Build Day” on August 3 beginning at 8:30 a.m. Foresters has invested more than $7 million with KaBOOM! to build nearly 100 playgrounds across the U.S. and Canada.
