CIARI conducts Fishermen Field Day at LA PORT BLAIR, JAN 20/-/ Division of Fisheries Science, CIARI, Port Blair has imparted “Fishermen Field Day” at Little Andaman under the INCOIS funded project on “Location-specific augmentation of Potential Fishing Zones (PFZ) using satellite altimetry and fishing ground database” for creating awareness on advantages of satellite based fishing technology, as per the directive of the project Principal Investigator Dr. S. Dam Roy, Director, CIARI, Port Blair. Fishermen Field Day was observed at R.K. Pur, Hut Bay-Farm Tickry on and 6th January 2015, and Harminder Bay on 8th January 2015 of Little Andaman. Shri. M. Joga Rao, Pramukh, Hut Bay, presided over the programme at Hut Bay-Farm Tickry and Shri Fred Levi, Captain at Harminder Bay. Beside the fishermen at R.K. Pur were informed on the benefits of PFZ for improving catch per unit area and reducing the scouting time along with usage of GPS in order to locate the demarcated zones precisely and sensitized fishermen on responsible fishing and sea safety. The progoramme was coordinated by Mr. M. Kaliyamoorthy Research Associate of project with the research scholars. Altogether a total of 45 beneficiaries have participated and got benefitted.
