# CINEMA – MOVIES – TELEVISION … NEWS – 497. Censor Board chief quits citing corruption Censor Board chief Leela Samson said she has decided to resign amidst reports that the film Messenger of God has been cleared for release. Censor Board chief Leela Samson said she has decided to resign amidst reports that the film Messenger of God has been cleared by Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT). A spokesperson of Sirsa (Haryana)-based Dera Sachcha Sauda said as per our information, FCAT has cleared the movie for release. But a written order is awaited. The Union Home Ministry has been concerned that the movie will face protests as certain Sikh organizations have been opposing its release, stating, Various Sikh organisations and individuals are opposing the movie on the ground that its release would disturb the communal harmony and law and order. They also opine that glorification of DSS chief, facing serious criminal cases, should not be allowed. In a comment to PTI, she said she was aware that the film had been given the go-ahead for screening. It is a mockery of Central Board of Film Certification. My resignation is final. Have informed the (I&B) Secretary. She stated her reasons to quit as interference, coercion and corruption of panel members and officers of the organization who are appointed by the ministry. Further, the terms of the members and Chairperson were officially over, however since a new Board and Chairperson have not yet been appointed by the government, extensions were given with a request to continue until the official reappointing was done. However, recent cases of interference in the working of the CBFC by the ministry, through an additional charge CEO, and corrupt panel members has caused a degradation of those values that the members of this Board of CBFC and Chairperson stood for, states Samson.
