Ive heard other people say similar things - so its one of the ways I know theres help and guidance out there. Its just a matter of our figuring out how to receive the ideas or information that are waiting to be heard.” ― Jim Henson Last week I wrote about the gift of creativity and how my students at ATLANTIC TECH HS, processed the experience through my class projects. I gave the students total freedom within school boundaries. My rubric, to write in a performing arts format (music, lyric, scripts). Part of the final grade resulted in the emotional reaction from the audience (the class). This can be defined as the “subjective/objective.” Here the TK pointers to creativity in the arts. 1 --- Observe the work of artist you enjoy and admire. Their work will be part of your subconscious. 2 --- Look at the blank page in front of you and simply begin to write whatever comes out. 3 --- Edit your work, then edit your work, then edit your work. 4 --- Share your work with colleagues, friends and /or family before you bring it to the public. The reaction they will give you, will give you a measurement on the level of the “subject/objective.” ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ REFLECTIONS Talk about the circle of life in art. As a teenager, I really enjoyed the music of Jackie Wilson. This Saturday, as a bass player along with our Brad (piano) and Jean (drummer) I will be accompanying Jackie Wilson’s son. One of the jazz icons I idolized as I was growing up in music was bassist composer, band leader Charles Mingus. Forty years later, his son Charles Mingus III ( who is a recognized artist) thru a close friend of mine, took a look at the video we did on my composition FREEDOM. He really liked the song and the video. He said, ...it was well balanced. The song, the acting, the way it was photographed was excellent. I really liked that he didnt try to upstage the piece because hes the bandleader...he was an equal part of the piece. Tell him I really enjoyed it......It was so well balanced.’ Here is the video -- https://youtube/watch?v=1VI8SaJvReQ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- COMING UP November 6 VALENCIA LAKES IN DELRAY we will be part of a musical showcase. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ NOVEMBER 7 -- 11 DAYS TO GO -- WE WILL BE BACK AT TAVOLINO DELLA NONNA ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOVEMBER 13 - we will be performing a fundraiser for the COMMUNITY CARING CENTER (they give food and shelter to the needy) at Benvenuttes in Boynton Beach Contact me for more info at swingblueband@aol ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ROAD TO TK BLU AND THE UNCOOL (1973-1974) As I look back, the first two years on the road with Family Tree, brings some very fond memories. Of course the groupies and autograph singing was a very cool thing for me, “the uncool”. Here are some other highlights; Lancaster * meeting the Dutch Amish Albany * The winter -- so - so cold Stevens Point * My first and last skiing experience Davenport * A very pretty girl driving me in convertible sports car, taking me to her family’s farm. The first farm I ever was on. Her family cooked home grown dinner. Des Moines • The first time on a date, the girl insisted on picking up my tab. Grand Forks * The band finding a pizzeria two in the morning, in a town shut for the night and snow all around us. Green Bay * The newspapers reviewed the band. To my embarrassment, the article was mostly about me! Pittsburg, * meeting the legendary Henry Mancini family. Next blog, my Carnegie Hall concert TK -- have a “cool” week from the UNCOOL TK BLU (Tony Kessler, Sabrena Rich, Sandra Deal, Jeanne Lynn Gray, Brad Keller, Jean Bolduc, George Garcia, Orlando Contreras, David Burgos, Devon Heinrich)
