CITY COUNCIL ALERT! Our friends at Eye on Sacramento have alerted us to a move by the city to screw the public and the media out of a chance to meaningfully review the final, binding contracts in the arena deal. PLEASE CALL OR EMAIL YOUR CITY COUNCIL REPRESENTATIVE (heck, call them all!) to protest this cynical maneuver. COME TO THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING TUESDAY at 6 pm at City Hall. You can bet that Crown Downtown will be there to cheer them on – after all, who needs transparency in city government? The city’s “Sunshine Rule” currently requires the city to post all proposed contracts over $1 million on its web site for 10 days before the council can approve such contracts. A proposal before the City Council at Tuesday’s meeting would change the Sunshine Rule so it would only apply to city labor contracts over $1 million. If this rule is changed tomorrow, the city will only have to provide 48 hours notice of the final terms of the arena deal, whose legal documents will be hundreds of pages long. ACT NOW!
