CITY OF ALVA JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: Swimming Pool Lifeguard DEPARTMENT: Swimming Pool REPORTS TO: Swimming Pool Manager FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt Seasonal GRADE: 1 SALARY: $7.47 to $10.34 per hour NATURE OF WORK This position has the responsibility to provide and implement current state and local life saving techniques of rescue for aquatic activities and to help and support maintenance and activates of the swimming pool. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS • Check filters; clean and vacuum pool; police pool area as necessary • Capabilities to participate in painting and maintenance of the public pool. • Maintaining of pool facilities • Respond to inquiries or request for service from interest community groups or citizens. • Participate in meetings to discuss and evaluate program techniques and content. • Prepare and submit a variety of reports and memoranda related to aquatic programs • Instructs students (e.g. swimming lessons) for the purpose of improving swimming skills and meeting program objectives and requirements. • Performs pool chemistry testing for the purpose of ensuring appropriate chemistry levels and maintaining compliance with established record keeping procedures. • Performs other duties as assigned. EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED High School Diploma or Equivalent required, some college preferred. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY Receives direction from the Swimming Pool Manager. Exercises safety and pool regulations of the patrons of the Alva Municipal Pool Revised: March 2014 Page 1 SPECIAL CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS, LICENSES REQUIRED Criminal/Traffic Background Clearance Post Offer/Pre-Employment Drug Screening and Fit Test CPR/First Aid Certificates Life Guard Certification KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with public groups, agencies, school officials, the media and others contracted in the course of work. Knowledge of principles and techniques of aquatic programs; principles of swim instruction program PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent climbing and balancing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS AND SAFETY CONCERNS Generally the job requires 75% sitting, 10% walking and 15% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and some hazardous conditions.
