CITY OF EDMONTON JOB OPPORTUNITY FOR ANIMAL LOVERS Customer Service Representative Job Number: 16945 This posting is for up to 2 temporary full-time positions for approximately 6 months but may continue up to 11 months in duration Pets are often considered part of our families, so when they go missing it can be an anxious time for both owners and animals. Luckily , The Animal Care and Control Centre staff provide modern care for the animals that come into the facility and help reunite pets with their owners in a quick and efficient way. They are now looking for a Customer Service Representative to become part of their essential team who is an animal lover at heart and a people person by nature. In this role, the Customer Service Representative will: Obtain and record all necessary information when a stray animal is brought in, or is released Process payment transactions for animal releases, pet licenses, trap deposits, and donations and issue receipts Educate clients on responsible pet ownership practices including compliance with Municipal Bylaws and Provincial Acts Count, reconcile, and deposit funds collected and prepare daily bank deposits Record customer information electronically in Shelter Buddy, ensuring that all details are documented thoroughly and accurately to ensure legal requirements are met Work in collaboration with Animal Control Officers to impose the fines and fees for stray pets as specified in the Animal Licensing and Control Bylaw Ask key questions and/or request proof of ownership to minimize any opportunity for fraudulent claims of ownership when releasing animals with no identification Create and maintain Pet License accounts using POSSE Process exception mail, which requires analysis and correction of Pet License accounts Escort owners looking for their lost pets through the kennels Participate in working committees or project teams on as required basis Provide administrative and project support to supervisors and directors as needed To visualize what it is like to be on our team, visit The City of Edmonton Administrative Professionals Talent Hub To learn more about this branch, visit Animal Care & Control Centre Qualifications: Completion of Grade 12 including business subjects including business subjects related to data entry, or completion of an appropriate certificate program from an approved business school or college Minimum of 2 years diversified data entry experience including general office procedures Strong customer service experience including the ability to deal with angry, emotional or grieving customers Completion of the NAIT Veterinary Medical Assistant program or equivalent is an asset Must have strong computer skills with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and the Internet Experience with Google Mail, POSSE, SAP and Shelter Buddy are definite assets Knowledge of Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP) and Payment Card Industry (PCI) Compliance Standard Ability to thoroughly and accurately create and maintain detailed electronic records Well-developed written and verbal communication skills Excellent time management skills and the ability to manage a high workload under stressful situations Ability to make sound decisions and work independently Sound knowledge of the Animal Licensing and Control Bylaw 13145 with the ability to interpret, quote, and defend bylaw requirements Experience handling cats and dogs is preferred Obtaining a clear Police Information Check will be required before starting in the position. The new hire will be required to obtain this check from Edmonton Police Services. A clear Certified Criminal Record Check from a local RCMP detachment will also be accepted. Please note: This process can take up to three weeks Hours of Work: 40 hours per week with rotating 10 hour shifts, Monday - Saturday. Please note shift work is a requirement of this position. Salary Range: 21B, Salary Grade: 007, $19.666 - $24.418 (Hourly). The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton. This union contract is currently under negotiation.
