CITY OF SCOTTSBORO – CEMETERY DEPARTMENT Position: Equipment Operator I Posted: Monday, August 11, 2014 Removal: Monday, August 25, 2014 Range: $10.33 - $18.11 per hour Job Summary Under the direction of the Cemetery Foreman, the employee performs general maintenance tasks consisting of mowing, trimming, leaf blowing, trash pickup, digging of graves spraying of chemicals, and maintenance of equipment. Minimum Qualifications Possess a high school diploma or GED Possess a valid and current Alabama driver’s license. Job Domains, Skills, and Abilities Maintenance: Operates hand tools and power equipment to maintain cemetery and for assigned duties. Operates power saws to cut down trees, trim trees, etc. Rakes and bags leaves. Sprays herbicides and chemicals. Spreads fertilizer. Operates leaf blower. Performs minor maintenance such as changing belts, changing oil, and fixing flat tires. Burials: Assists in the opening and closing of graves. Use hand tools such as shovels, pick axes, and rakes to perform manual labor. Restores grass after graves have been dug, rakes down and fills in dirt. Sows grass seed on cemetery plots. Repairs grave markers as needed. Drives truck and trailer to haul off excess dirt from grave sites. Sets up tents and chairs for funeral services. Removes tents and chairs following burials. Cleans and stores tents and chairs. Performs other duties as required. Drives to perform assigned duties. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of mowers, weed eaters, and leaf blower. Skills and strength to use hand tools, operate power equipment, and perform manual labor. Verbal skills to communicate with co-workers and supervisor. Ability to take orders, get along with supervisor, co-workers, and general public. Ability to work outside and in adverse weather. Ability to be on call seven days a week and work non-standard work hours. Ability to lift heavy objects.
