CLARENCE GATEMOUTH BROWN, the great Texas and Louisiana musician, - TopicsExpress

CLARENCE GATEMOUTH BROWN, the great Texas and Louisiana musician, died on this day in 2005, terminally ill and, sadly, heartbroken by the destruction of his home by Hurricane Katrina. Gate was the first African-American bluesman with a legend behind him that I interviewed. Also, the first bluesman I smoked pot with. He attributed his health and vitality to smoking weed and aloe vera. (No lie!) He was as colorful as colorful gets, and as brilliant as musicians get. I was often amazed by his music and his truly original observations on life. His signature tune early on, cut for Don Robeys Duke/Peacock label was the wonderful Okie Dokie Stomp. Love ya, Gate! - Ted Drozdowski
