CLARKSTON, WA - The Clarkston Fire Department is accepting applications for Volunteer Firefighters through January 6th. They are available at the fire station located at 820 5th Street or on the City of Clarkston website at clarkston-wa . From Clarkston Fire Department: Clarkston Volunteer Firefighters respond to structure fires, vehicle fires, grass and wildland fires, smoke or odor calls, hazardous materials calls, rescue calls and emergency medical services (EMS) incidents. Volunteer Firefighter/Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) help provide ambulance service/transport within Clarkston. Volunteer Firefighters participate in providing public safety education, CPR classes and conduct fire extinguisher classes for businesses. Clarkston Volunteer Firefighter/EMTs may be called to respond to emergencies 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Being a firefighter involves hard work, subject to getting called at all hours of the day or night. Volunteer Firefighters experience camaraderie working with a team of emergency responders, some excitement and great satisfaction for helping people who need your help. Clarkston Fire Department is looking for new Volunteer Firefighters who may also complete EMT training and respond as EMS providers. We prefer candidates living within 10 minutes of the CFD fire station. Expectations of Volunteer Firefighters include: Attending not less than 75% of Tuesday night drills Responding to not less than 30% of fire incidents Clarkston Fire Department responded to 222 fire responses in 2013 Clarkston Fire Department Ambulance responded to 1,681ambulance responses in 2013 Selection process overview: Submit an application by January 6, 2015 Attend an optional orientation session on January 9, 2015 - at 7:00PM Physical performance test – firefighter related tasks – pass/fail – January 10th test date Interview Background check Physician examination Volunteer candidates successfully completing the selection process will receive firefighter training at the Clarkston Fire Department. Volunteer Firefighters who complete the firefighter training and who then complete a local EMT class will be reimbursed for the EMT class cost after achieving Washington State EMT certification so long as entry into the class was approved by the fire chief before the class begins and Washington State EMT certification is completed within 4 months of course completion.
