CLAYDON FC U9’S (A) MATCH REPORT Claydon U9 vs. Ransomes U9 – 13 September 2014 Claydon U9’s welcomed Ransomes to the Blue Circle ground on a fine Saturday morning. The pitches and practice area were looking great. All credit to the ground staff. The starting line up was Alfie in goal, Sam & Josh at the back, Harry left midfield with Oliver on the right and Owen and Makai up front. Fabian and Omarion started as substitutes. Ransomes kicked off and were immediately pushing forward. Continuing on from last week and what is to be expected at this level, both teams were fighting hard to assert their domination. It was good to see Josh return to form and produce a good performance next to Sam as the game moved through the early stages. The deadlock was soon broken as Claydon produced a slick move with Owen passing to Harry on the left wing who in turn provided an accurate cross field ball for Oliver to open the scoring. From the restart Alfie showed the form which earned him man of the match the previous week with some good solid saves and a notable one on one situation which he handled cleverly. Makai was getting involved in the game breaking up some Ransomes attacks as the substitutes were introduced. Omarion had an instant effect on the game as he grabbed the initiative and broke forward. He was able to pass the ball forward into space where Fabian chased onto it and, with a trademark powerful shot, the ball was soon nestling in the back of the net. Half time: Claydon 2 – Ransomes 0 The second half saw Fabian take up a defensive role next to Sam, Oliver and Omarion in midfield and Harry and Owen up front. The ball was hotly contested and the referee did well to keep the game going whilst still offering the players a good deal of protection. The next goal also went the way of Claydon with Oliver passing the ball into the box from the left wing and Owen showing his strikers instinct to shoot home from close range. Ransomes began to pile on the pressure and the Claydon players recognised the need to chase back and help out with defensive duties. One particular episode saw a string of great saves from Alfie and a couple of crucial clearances from Sam. The Ransomes pressure bore fruit when a player was fouled in the area and they scored from the resulting penalty. Perhaps the only way Alfie was to be beaten on this day?! The final minutes of the game were played out at a good pace with some good solid challenges being made. A credit to the boys involved and to under 9’s football. Full time: Claydon 3 – Ransomes 1 Reporters Opinion: Children should be encouraged to play fairly and referees should be respected. Man of the Match: Oliver Okeh Match Reporter: Simon Wood
