CLIMBING OUT VERSUS DIGGING DEEPER The hole we dig can get so deep That the dirt we try to throw out Keeps falling back in and buries us…. But, God is in the resurrection business~~~ Sometimes along life’s path, we get sidetracked and do the dumbest things. It’s as if we’re digging our own grave. Blindly we dig deeper and deeper, when we should be looking for a way to climb out while we still can, not really seeing what we are doing and not realizing we will soon be stuck with no way out on our own. As we gradually go farther down, we don’t notice that we’ve gone too far. At that point, we can’t climb out by ourselves; we will have to make a tremendous effort to get out by changing our direction and allowing God and others to help us. But, if we keep digging and resist help, we will wind up at a point where we are so deep that the dirt we try to throw out will come right back down on top of us until we bury ourselves, or are so worn out that we give up and die. Even if we think our problem has buried us alive, we can still be rescued if we accept the help that Jesus has made available to us. Some holes can be climbed out of without much effort, while others seem impossible. If we dig a hole for a long time, it may take us just as long to climb out of it; but if we don’t change our direction and want to get out, we may never see light again. God’s hand is always reaching out for us; all we have to do is grab a hold and allow ourselves to be lifted up. He made a pit, and digged it, and is fallen into the ditch which he made. His mischief shall return upon his own head, and his violent dealing shall come down upon his own pate. Ps. 7:15, 16 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. Galatians 6:7, 8 The things which are impossible with men are possible with God. Luke 18:27 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. 1 John 2:1, 2 --Cathy Crabtree
