CLOTHESLINE WHITE covered the fields and paddocks this morning. The day lay before me with lots of tasks to accomplish. After finishing morning feed the flat bed truck arrived at the entrance to the farm. Two full skids of wood pellets we being delivered as the driver decided to unload on the roadway and bring the skids in by fork lift. It was a quick job so that one got checked off my list. After he left, I turned the herd out on Gingers Hollow. They all had BIG EYES as I led them past the giant pile of scary white plastic bags. Today my challenge was to get as many stalls done from tomorrows list as possible, along with todays group. I have an appointment early tomorrow afternoon that will take me away from the stable for a period of time. Since I cant be at two places at once, I worked at lessening the load for tomorrow by doing extra stalls. I had manage 3 or 4 stalls when Tanya arrived. Marilyn came in at the same time. When I mentioned I was going to lunch, the ladies decided to join me. So off to the café we went. Marilyn was in great form telling stories about her sometimes wild adventures at Trillium over the past 18 years. I think we had Tanya captivated. She had galloped down her lunch long before Marilyn and I had. Never a dull moment at the stable. Back at the barn Tanya picked up a fork and cleaned stalls while Marilyn pulled out Precious and pampered her again. Since Precious had a tumble yesterday, Marilyn had an excuse not to ride and instead groomed and made a tasty hot bran mash with all the toppings. (One very spoiled girl that Precious is.) After everyone departed, I began afternoon feed. The temperature was beginning to plummet as I spread safety salt and cat litter on the aisle ways. The aisles were wet from earlier melting and condensation dripping from the steel roof. They are issuing another extreme cold alert warning for tonight with a wind chill in our area of -30. Ill be back in the barn for tonights full slate of lessons. Tough Duck night. Here are some pictures from today.
