CLUB NEWSLETTER - 11th SEPTEMBER SENIOR RUGBY It was great to see our Premier Captain Orene Aii take the field for THE Auckland ITM Cup team in the weekend vs. Taranaki. It has been 8 years since Aii has worn the blue & white jersey after playing overseas with Toulon (France) & Toyota (Japan). Hopefully he will feature in more games of the remaining competition. We have 7 Rifles players named for the Auckland Storm Women’s ITM game vs. Canterbury. It is our very own Emma Jensen who captains the Auckland side and with her accurate kicking (slotting 4 penalties) edging out Canterbury in the second half, they had a perfect start to their season, winning 27-18. SEVENS We had an amazing turnout on Monday as the Sevens Season kicked off with over 25 players from all different grades. The season runs all summer from Sept 2013 – Feb 2014. Three tournaments have already been confirmed for October/November with two more in the new year yet to be confirmed. This is open to any players. The Team is coached by two experienced sevens players, former NZ Sevens Player and Auckland 7s Coach Edwin Cocker and our very own, Director of Senior Rugby - Chris Tautiaga. Trainings are every Mon & Wed 6pm. NZ BARBARIANS U85kg TOURNAMENT AT RIFLES NZ Barbarians sponsor U85kg rugby to help develop a competition for lighter weight players who enjoy playing the game against other players of a similar size and weight. It is hoped that middleweight players stay in the game longer and also contribute to the administration and running of the game at a club and provincial level. This year, teams from Wellington, Waikato, Thames Valley, North Harbour and Auckland will compete for the Barbarians Trophy. Tournament details: September 14-15 at College Rifles. Time: 9.30am onwards each day. FOUR NATIONS RUGBY In two great games of rugby on Saturday, Wales beat England & Ireland beat Scotland. This week sees Scotland vs. England for the Calcutta Cup & Ireland vs. Wales for a top of the table clash. Both games are played at Cornwall Park kick off 2:30pm.
