CM Speech at Inaugural of 7th Bengaluru India Nano-2014 Bharat Ratna Prof C. N. R. Rao, Shri S.R. Distinguished invitees, Media Friends, Ladies and Gentlemen, 1.I feel privileged to be present at the inaugural of 7th Bengaluru India Nano-2014, India’s premier Nano-tech event. 2.Karnataka is one of the pioneering States in the country in providing the requisite ecosystem for development of the Industry, Research and Development. 3.Because of this, the State has achieved the pinnacle of success in Knowledge-based Industries like Information Technology, IT-enabled services, chip designing, animation and gaming, biotechnology and a large base of research and development institutions. 4.Bengaluru has earned a pride of place in the global market as the knowledge and technology capital of the country Globally, Bengaluru city is second only to the Silicon Valley in terms of knowledge and advances in technology, thanks to the growing number of Start ups. 5.Karnataka has the distinction of bringing out policies for Information Technology, Bio-technology, Semi-conductor, Animation, Electronics Systems Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) for the first time in the country to give impetus for the growth of these sectors. 6.The policies have definitely helped in attracting many industries particularly the Multi National Companies and enabled the State to become a Global Hub for Knowledge-based Industries. 7.Bengaluru has always been a trend-setter in encouraging new wave of industrial development. In knowledge-based industrial development, Bengaluru has reached iconic stature.I am glad to state that the city is recognized as one of the Top 10 Technopolises in the World. 8.Given the enabling nature of nanotechnology and its ability to converge with other technologies, it has the potential to address key development related challenges in diverse sectors like energy, water, agriculture, health and environment. 9.A significant spin-off of nanotechnology is development of diagnostic sensors and lab-on-a-chip technology, which may soon become an important part of efforts to improve global health. 10.I call upon the scientists to come-up with tangible nanotechnology-based solutions for Food Security,Energy Security, Water Purification, Medicine and Health Care, besides, Waste management. 11.The ultimate purpose of all science and research should be to address the huge challenges faced by the common man in these areas. 12.I hope in the next the two days of this conference,deliberations would be held exploring possibilities of applications of Nanotechnology to find practical solutions which would be of value to the citizens. 13.Our Government proposes to establish a state-of-the-art Nano Park in Bengaluru, which will have Nano Incubation Centre along with the necessary physical infrastructure and support systems including common facilities. 14.I am sure this initiative will give a major fillip to the nanotechnology industry to blossom in the State in the coming years. 15.Center for Nano and Soft Matter Sciences, is being established in Bengaluru with funding support from Government of India under the Nano Mission, for which Government of Karnataka has already allocated 14 acres of land on Tumkur Road. 16.I request kind intervention of Prof C N R Rao in moving the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India,to hasten its development work. 17.The Vision Group on Nanotechnology headed by Bharat Ratna Prof C. N. R. Rao is doing commendable work in recommending initiatives for the growth and development ofNano Science and Technology in the State. 18.The State Government has enhanced budgetary support from the current financial year for schemes and programmes recommended by the Vision Group on Science and Technology. 19.I am sure the participants will have plenty of opportunities for knowledge sharing, technology up-gradation, networking and business ventures during this conference. 20.I wish you all a very pleasant time in the Innovation Capital of India, Bengaluru and extend my greetings for Christmas and the New Year 2015, in advance. 21.I wish the Bengaluru India Nano Conference, a grand success.
