CM chairs meeting about Air and Technical Universities in Azakhel Nowshera Provincial govt has decided to search and provide alternate land for Botinical garden presently at Azakhel Park near the Peshawar University campus on the request of University administration. Similarly work on two Universities has also been directed to expedite on fast track basis. It merit mention here that Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak has accorded approval to the establishment of two separate universities viz Air University and Technical University on a vast piece of land at Aza Khel, on GT Road and directed the concerned authorities to take necessary steps to expedite work on the projects and put them on ground in the shortest possible time. There exists a botanical garden spreading on 77 kanals while the rest of more than 650 kanal land of district council Nowshera is lying useless on which state of the art Air university and technical university of international standard will be setup. A high level meeting to review the intial progress on the establishment of two new universities was held at CM Secretariat Peshawar with Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak in the chair. Besides, Minister for Higher Education & Information, Mushtaq Ghani, Vice Chancellor University of Peshawar Dr. Rasool Jan, Vice Chancellor Engineering University of Technology Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gillani, Vice Chancellor Agriculture University, Chairman CRC Haji Dil Roze, Principal Secretary to CM Mohammad Ashfaq and other high ups of concerned departments attended the meeting. The proposed Air University will be established under the auspices of Pakistan Air Force while Technical University will be established by provincial Higher Education department. The Chief Minister termed the establishment of both the Universities as a milestone step and said that the establishment of these universities unique in nature would have a far reaching impacts not only on education sector but on the economy of the province as well adding that there would usher in a new era of economic prosperity and eco beauty in the province because technical education at universities level would get boost and new opportunities of employment, research and innovation would be explored. Pervez Khattak was of the view that owing to its peculiar geographical location, Aza Khel was very much suitable for the establishment of such educational institutions while a number of educational institutions were already being setup in the same locality. He termed the promotion of technical education as the need of the hour and the best way to address the core issue of unemployment. He said that with the establishment of the technical university, Vocational & technical education would be promoted on modern and scientific lines and resultantly, not only maximum employment opportunities would be provided to the jobless young lots but industrial sector would also groom in the province. “our province has suffered great losses because of dis-continuation of policies and lack of decision power in the past regimes but the same will not happen anymore and now whatever decision is once made it will be implemented at all costs and all such schemes of national importance will never be thrown in the cold storage”, the Chief Minister resolved. He said that both the universities will not be limited to imparting traditional education and training but these will be hubs of researches and inventions wherein researches works of international standard would be carried out besides imparting all types of technical training and ultimately our young generation will be inclined towards creative activities and inventions. The participants of the meeting were told on the occasion that the schemes of technical university had been included in the provincial ADP 2013-14 with an allocation of Rs.500 million initially whereas the scheme of Air University would be financed and supported by Pakistan Air Force. The Chief Minister also directed the authorities to adopt international standards in the planning, designing and construction of both the universities. Vice Chancellor, Peshawar University Dr. Rasool Jan assured that the botanical garden would be turned into a centre of research activities as well as a point of scenic beauty. The VCs of Engineering, Agriculture and Peshawar Universities also assured all possible professional and technical assistance to the provincial government in the establishment of the two new specialized universities at Azakhel.
