CM outsources municipal services of Peshawar to Private Company Handout No.1 Peshawar 11th September 2014 KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has said that PTI-led coalition govt valued the hardwork and talent of govt employees. The more they work the big will be rewarded but shirk of work and corruption will not be tolerated at any cost, he added. “In addition to progress and beautification of Peshawar, the considerable improvement in municipal services including water supply, sanitation and street lights in this big city are among top most priorities of his govt so that its past glory is revived in the best possible manner”, he maintained. He was addressing a launching ceremony at CM House Peshawar wherein Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government handed over municipal services of Peshawar city to a private company. The function was also addressed by Senior Minister for Local Govt InayatUllah, Secretary LG Hifz-ur-Rehman and CEO Water & Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) Muhammad Naeem while it besides the officials of Peshawar Development Authority, Municipal Cooperation and Local Govt department was also attended by Speaker KP Assembly Asad Qaiser, Minister Mineral Development ZiaUllah Afridi, Minister Jails Malak Qasim Khattak, MPAs, Representatives of US Aid, World Bank, Afghanistan, Iranian consulate and Industrialists of Peshawar. Pervez Khattak regretted that three thousand municipal employees could not ensure cleanliness in Peshawar while lack of monitoring was the basic reason behind it. He expressed the confidence that private company would remove all these short comings in municipal services and would hence further the great cause of service delivery with a renewed commitment. He hoped that all the municipal employees would play due role and will cooperate to ensure cleanliness in the city while they would be rewarded with better salaries and incentives. He said that we have to satisfy Peshawarites and the day they were satisfied in terms of municipal services would be the day of success of govt and municipal employees. He said that being Muslims, cleanliness is part and parcel of our life and society but the self interest and faulty policies of the past regimes added to the dirt and mess of the cities besides other numerous problems. He said that he felt shock and shame when passing from the roads and bazaars of the city and seeing heaps of garbage and dirts there. He said billions of rupees were spent on municipal services but results were ignored by the past rulers that were a tragedy. However, he said that our concrete steps would yield tangible results and people would see vivid change in their surroundings then. The Chief Minister said that after successful launching in Peshawar, municipal services in other cities of the province will also be handed over to private sector. He thanked USAID and World Bank for financial assistance in helping the provincial govt to improve municipal services and stressed the need for making the city clean. He further hailed the role of municipal employees for extending cooperation with the private municipal company. He also directed to revitalize and develop treatment plants for disposing off of garbage in the city as he said billions of rupees were also spent from public exchequer on such projects. He hoped that solid waste would be disposed off on scientific lines and it was matter of satisfaction that the company has planned for waste to energy projects. Pervez Khattak said that street lights in the city will be converted to solar system. He said the government is determined to improve civic services besides changing the system. He said there will be zero tolerance for corruption and all government employees will serve public to get reward. He said that his govt was endeavoring for clean, transparent and corruption free Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by streamlining the govt machinery to also pave way for a corruption free new Pakistan. He asked the citizens to fully cooperate with the company and municipal staff to shine their roads, streets and bazaars by ensuring cleanliness everywhere in the city.
