CNNs Don Lemon Named to Worst Journalism of 2014 List In all - TopicsExpress

CNNs Don Lemon Named to Worst Journalism of 2014 List In all honesty, this is very sad. We have watched a 24 hour news operation, something us news hogs loved in general principle, turn into a laughing stock and being so bad that it has made a list of the worst, or at least Don Lemmon has. A dream turned into a nightmare. This may well be our worst year ever as TV news goes in the US, and our biggest heroes have fallen as well. CBS News 60 Minutes has had a few very bad moments, ABC News Nightline is a shadow of what it once was, and the evening news broadcasts are losing ground every day. We have all but lost most of the big print media news operations, or at least they have been cut to the bone and then some. Some of the best journalists have been cut in favor of a new version of journalist, one that does many jobs for less pay and benefits. And many of these dont do any of those jobs well. And then we have the advent of the citizen journalist. A corporate accountants dream. Free and available by the thousands, not on any payroll so no accountability for truth or ethics necessary, nor a financial burden in case of death or dismemberment. We, those of us in the business of journalism - current, unemployed, or retired - are or should be worried for the future of news and the horrors the lack of news and those that bring it to the public can bring. The bad guys and worse governments never take a holiday, and the greatest gift they could ever receive is to be able to operate in the dark, away from the cameras and those pesky reporters with their notebooks and computers. They, these zealots, dictators, religious leaders, and crooked politicians, are like the cockroach, you step on one and another scampers by behind you carrying off the holiday turkey and the babys future. They breed like rabbits and find refuge in our halls of government and religious and educational institutions, though some live in the garbage we leave behind as we eat all the goodies our good earth provides and throw out the car window, building the slums and shanty towns we drive through, with windows closed, on the way to the shopping mall for some more stuff. They are watching, as we pay more attention to Snookie and the Redneck Moonshiner then we do Congress or Parliament. And since we have cut back on those journalists that usually ventured out into the hinterlands and beyond, they scurry around committing foul deeds unnoticed and unworried, because since we are unaware we are unlikely to do anything to bring them to justice of any kind, or even to try to stop them. 2015 is right around the corner. What then must we do ? - Tolstoy
