°°•••CNS-j&k•••°° HEADLINES 1. PDP has accepted our 3 conditions: BJP *As talks between the two enter final stage, Baig tells party legislators that a tie-up with BJP should not be a taboo as PDP is an Indian mainstream party *Meeting with Omar Abdullah on cards on his return from London, says BJP’s Kashmir in charge Ramesh Arora * Advani convinces Mufti about government formation, says a PDP leader Moazum Mohammad Srinagar: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said on Sunday that People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has accepted the three conditions it had said would form the basis of any tie-up for government formation in the state. Ramesh Arora, BJP’s in charge of Kashmir affairs, told Kashmir Reader the three conditions—no compromise on sovereignty and national integrity, development and balanced development of all regions of the state—have been conveyed to the PDP. “There is no question of disagreement and they have accepted all the three terms,” Arora said. Government formation is stuck in limbo since December 23 when elections results were declared. No party got near to the figure of 44 seats in the 87-member Assembly to stake claim to the government. With 28 seats, the highest, PDP emerged as the largest party and was offered support by both Congress (12 seats) and NC (15 seats), but it seems to have made up its mind to ally with the BJP (25 seats, all in Jammu) which is ruling at the Centre and holds the purse strings. The MLAs conveyed their concerns about an alliance with the BJP to top PDP leadership after interacting with cross section of people in their respective constituencies, a senior PDP leader said on condition of anonymity. “The MLAs after visiting their constituencies came back with the feedback that the future of PDP might be at stake if the party joined hands with the BJP for government formation,” the PDP leader said. He said there was a consensus among the MLAs that there is a vast gap to fill for their party in order to enter an alliance with BJP. “Given the agenda of the BJP like Article 370, revocation of AFSPA and our stand on these issues, the two parties have a lot of distance to cover in order to reach a common ground,” the leader said. The election results on December 23 threw up a hung Assembly with the PDP emerging as the single largest party winning 28 seats—25 in Kashmir and three in Jammu region. Continued 3. All-women police flying squads to be deployed in Srinagar Reader Correspondent Srinagar: All-women police flying squads would be deployed in this summer capital of the state to check crimes against women. “All-women police flying squads will be deployed in Srinagar city at sensitive places to check crimes against women,” a police spokesman said in a handout Sunday. He said the squads would be deployed particularly outside coaching centre hubs in the city. “To begin with, the city police will deploy all-women police flying squad vehicles in coaching hubs of Parraypora and Baghat areas to assist the girl students. Later, the squads will be deployed in other sensitive places,” the spokesman said. Continued 4. Avian guests fed paddy grains at frozen Hokersar Abdul Mohamim SRINAGAR: As Hokersar Wetland Reserve has frozen, the authorities have been dispersing food grains at select places so that the thousands of migratory birds that make the water body home in winters do not go hungry. Imtiaz Ahmad Lone, Warden Wetlands, said a layer of ice that has covered most of the wetland is hampering the natural feeding of the birds. Therefore officials spray paddy grains on both frozen and unfrozen pools in the wetland, which are soon flocked by the hungry birds. An employee who feeds the birds said paddy grains work well because the seeds float...CNS j&k
