COALITION OF GHANAIAN YOUTH FOR JUSTICE FOR SUWAIBA Press conference Monday, 10 March, 2014Ladies and Gentlemen of the media: The Coalition of Ghanaian Youth for Justice for Suwaiba would like to acknowledge the effortsof the Ministry of Health (MOH), Civil Society Groups, Media (local and International), SocialMedia commentators, the Ghana Police Service, the Office of the National Chief Imam,Churches, Office of the Sarkin Zongo, Parliament House of the Republic of Ghana and the General Public in helping to unravel the mystery surrounding the strange disappearance of Suwaiba Abdul Mumin s baby and the other mothers whose babies could not be accounted for at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) on Wednesday February 5, 2014 after successful delivery.Nonetheless, we have been monitoring eventsin the media ever since this unpardonable incident broke out and would like to place on record that, we find some of the comments coming from the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), particularly its General Secretary, Dr. Frank Serebour, as highly distasteful and unacceptable and we will like to assure him and the GMA that we are unfazed by their blatant threats and will never be cowed into silence.Ladies and Gentlemen, according to Dr. Serebours logic, we can’t say a doctor was guilty because it was a whole team that was on duty.”This is indeed sad to say the least and a very clear case of failure on the management of KATH. We again find it preposterous and irresponsible on the part of GMA to read meanings into the directive issued by the MOHwith very little or no regard to the matter at hand.In fact, the stance taken or the posture assumed by the medical staff only goes to expose their burning desire and naked interest to shield and cover up for one of theirown at the expense of poor Suwaiba and the others.At this point (though long overdue), fairness and professionalism would demand that the Chief Executive Officer of KATH, Professor Ohene Adjei steps aside whiles investigation continue. Again, After the MOHs directives, which has persuaded us to call off the intended demonstration we have steadily observed and listened to most of the media discussions and commentaries surrounding this missing babies saga, particularly the utterances of Mr kwame Frimpong the PRO of KATH.We wish to state that, the attempt being made to heap all the blames onto the orderly and tosingle him out as the sole perpetrator of this unprofessional and criminal act will not wash. KATH as a public institution cannot and must not attempt to exonerate itself from this obvious vicarious liability.We are by this statement sending out a clear message to GMA and KATH that we as a group (with the support of all Ghanaians) remain very resolute and determined in our quest to seek for truth and justice in this rather shameful incident and will stop at nothing until the disappeared babies reappear.We shall use all legitimate means to actually make sure that we continue digging deeper into the matter until we get to the bottom.That is to say, the babies must be produced (either dead or alive ) and nothing more.Ladies and Gentlemen, in the meantime, we shall continue to remain very calm and monitor events as they unfold and still anticipate that the babies would be discovered( either dead or alive ) by the time the 14-day ultimatum elapses before deciding our next line of action.It is our resolution that this incident would be a call for proper and acceptable institutional conduct and professionalism. We are therefore very confident and sincerely believe that, in the end, truth will prevail and justice would be served not only to Suwaiba, but to the other mothers whose babies could not be accounted for. We trust that the issue of child delivery in Ghana will never be the same. We thank you all for honoring this invitation.God bless our homeland Ghana and make ournation great and strong.
