COCA Profile in todays Tallahassee Democrat: Maria Balingit and Ananda Balingit-LeFils Mother and daughter hold portrait exhibit at Artport Gallery By Courteney Jones Maria Balingit and Ananda Balingit-LeFils work as solo artists, but their work carries an undeniable connection — a connection not unlike what the two share as mother and daughter. Balingit, who came to Tallahassee to study printmaking at Florida State, began her career as a sign maker but currently works as a graphic designer, a transition mandated by changes in the industry. She didn’t start doing portraits until 2010, when she took her first draw­ing class at the Tallahassee Senior Cen­ter. “The first ‘first’ show I was really a part of was at the Senior Center, in the ballroom,” Balingit said.
