My Animal ID # is A1006764. I am a male br brindle and white pit bull mix. The shelter thinks I am about 3 YEARS old. I came in the shelter as a SEIZED on 07/15/2014 from NY 10463, owner surrender reason stated was OWN ARREST. I came in with Group/Litter #K14-185989. MOST RECENT MEDICAL INFORMATION AND WEIGHT 07/23/2014 Exam Type CAGE EXAM - Medical Rating is 3 C - MAJOR CONDITIONS , Behavior Rating is NH ONLY, Weight 44.6 LBS. showing signs of kennel cough coughing heard nasal discharge present as per 0933 start on doxycycline 100mg PO SID for 10 days 07/15/2014 PET PROFILE MEMO 7/15/14 5:41pm Late entry No profile available. Owner arrested, brought to ACCNYC. 07/22/2014 WEB MEMO A volunteer writes:Rex means King in Latin and this regal brindle beauty certainly lives up to his name - I consider it quite an honor to have met him! A compact, handsome and thoughtful boy, Rex may have the bearing of a ruler but hes checked his ego at the door and whether walking, snuggling (and kissing!) or playing with his toys, we meet as affable equals and hes never anything but relaxed and affectionate toward me. Rex does pull on the leash in his eagerness to get outside but once in harness he makes a great strolling companion, taking care of business immediately, moving along at an easy trot and seeing other dogs with intense yet friendly attention. To the casual observer Rex may look like hes stalking but once closer he seems the perfect picture of tail-wagging happiness with his canine pals and off-leash in the yard hell frequently get up to peer longingly over the fence as each new friend leaves, so disappointed that playtime is over. Rex arrived at the Care Center with his (likely) son, Max (A1006766) when their human was arrested but both dogs seem to have been very well cared for in their former home. Each is thrilled to see the other when we do a meet-n-greet through Maxs kennel door but sadly hes feeling a bit under the weather so an outdoor family reunion isnt possible right now, sorry fellas! Rex may be the man of the house but theres still plenty of puppy energy hiding behind his polished exterior and he loves to play with a tennis ball as much as the next dog. Hell sit on command (most of the time) before dashing off to grab the ball and returning to my side where I can take it right from his mouth or pick it up from the ground. Rex is keen to make a fresh start and a lifetime of love and laughter is surely in store for the lucky family who welcomes him home. With his good looks, noble soul and friendly nature I cant imagine anything better than a long and happy reign for Rex, the new King of your heart! 07/17/2014 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION - NH ONLY Exam Type BEHAVIOR Rex shook off frequently in the evaluation room. He whined during positioning for the look item and he lied down after the item was completed. Rex was soft during the sensitivity item; however he attempted to bite the assessor during the tag item. It required a bit of pressure from the assess-a-hand for Rex to lift his head during the food bowl test; however he showed no aggression. He showed minimal interest in rawhides and he took the rawhide away with soft body language. Rex approached the helper dog with confident, but soft body language. When close, he exposed his teeth at the helper dog. The behavior department feels that placement through a New Hope partner is the best option. Look: 2 Dog pulls out of Assessors hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1 Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dogs mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 5 Dog tries to bite. Squeeze 1: 3 Dog is soft in body and eye, and moves his legs/body so that the Assessor is unable to hold the paw. Flank squeeze 1: 1 Dog does not respond at all. Flank squeeze 2: 1 Dog does not respond at all. Food: 2 Dog follows the dish with his tail down, body likely a bit stiff. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy: 1 Minimal interest. Dog may smell or lick toy, and then turn away. Rawhide: 2 Dog takes the rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. He is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness. Dog-to-dog: 2 Dog approaches the helper dog, body soft, tail well above spine level, ears forward. Helper: A1006817 Additional dog-dog follow up outside: Rex strongly focuses on dogs when he initially sees them. He also pulls strongly toward them. Once he was allowed to greet the dog through the pen, his ears and tail were up, tail slowly wagging. He only interacted briefly with the dog before moving on. He was a bit difficult to distract but moved away on his own when meeting the dog in the pen. 07/15/2014 INITIAL PHYSICAL EXAM Medical rating was 3 NC - MAJOR CONDITIONS NOT CONTAGIOUS, behavior rating was NONE SCAN NEGATIVE BRIGHT, ALERT, RESPONSIVE, HYDRATED PHYSICAL EXAM- INTACT MALE.
