COLLARS...TAGS...MICROCHIP. If for some reason you dont think your dog can wear a collar with an I.D. tag, then how about a harness with an I.D. tag? Dont like the sound of the tag moving around? Get one that is flush on the collar. If you still have a reason for not putting an I.D. tag on a pet, then how about a microchip? Yeah, they cost. Just like it costs to feed that pet. That is a part of being a pet owner. Responsibility to feed it, house it, furnish it with proper medical care and keep it safe. We have heard every excuse you can think of for not putting a tag on a dog. The most popular one is I just gave it a bath. That may sound good to you, but it is old news to us. (Tags do come off sometimes, it does happen and we know that, but THAT is a small percentage of the problem). So, if you are NOT going to keep a proper I.D. on it or a microchip with current, updated info on where a person can get it back home to you pronto, then dont complain because you have to pay to get it out of a shelter. It takes time for someone to gather up your dog out of traffic, load it into a car, take it to the shelter, unload it. Take it in. Sign it in. Then it takes their time to log it in, check it over, put it in a pen, feed and water it etc. There is a lot of peoples time and involvement trying to take care of YOUR pet! So, yes, that is our job and that is why we are hear. You do your part, and the animal care techs, employees, law enforcement, shelter workers etc will do theirs. All of this could be avoided though with a simple collar and an I.D. tag. :-)
