COLLECTABLE NAGOYA EGGSHELL 15PC CHINA TEA SET GHOST GEISHA £50 Highly collectable china tea set made by Nagoya China in Japan (company no longer operates) This is the complete set known as LANTERN pattern The set is made from beautifully delicate china. The cups in particular are very light and when held upto the light unveil the face if a geisha at the bottom of the cup (see pics) AKA ghost geisha The molded art is made by very thin translucent porcelain also known as Lithophane. This process can create a 3-D image. You can see the image when light n shadows are in play and when you tilt your cup of tea. You can also set the cup in a sunny window and view it at different times during the day. Sunlight alters the image and the Geisha Ghost will appear. During WWII many sailors and soldiers were buying pieces to bring back home, during 1945-1952. This art form stopped production sometime in the 1950s. Set comprises of: Teapot Milk jug Sugar bowl, with lid 4 teacups 4 saucers 4 tea plates One of the plates has a cracked piece (see pics) hence the more than reasonable price, but it is cleanly broken and easily mended. Can deliver locally if required or can be collected from Ashington or Morpeth.
