COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF NAMES SHAWN MOORE DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY RELATIONS Bill Hancock, Executive Director of the College Football Playoff, announced today that Shawn Moore has been named Director of Community Relations. “Shawn brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the College Football Playoff,” Hancock said. “His varied background as a student-athlete, NCAA staff member, coach and administrator at different levels of the education field will help him lead efforts in the communities that the College Football Playoff will touch each season.” Moore will manage the playoff’s educational programs, football and coaching clinics, cause marketing, local ordinances associated with the games’ events and activities, and will be the playoff’s primary liaison with host-community government and charitable enterprises. “I am truly looking forward to leading the College Football Playoff community outreach and efforts,” Moore said. “We have a tremendous platform with the incredible interest in college football to do so much good in the community and give back to all those who have contributed to our success.” Moore joins the College Football Playoff after recently serving as the assistant football coach and lead recruiter for his alma mater, the University of Virginia. Overseeing wide receivers and tight ends, he helped lead UVA to three straight seasons of national top 25 recruiting classes. Moore entered the collegiate coaching ranks for the first time in 2010 after four seasons as the quarterbacks coach at St. Albans School in Washington, D.C. A native of Martinsville, Va., Moore earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Virginia, where he was a standout quarterback for the Cavaliers. At the conclusion of his final collegiate season in 1990, he held 41 school, ACC and NCAA individual records and still holds many program records, including most total offense in a career (7,897 yards) and touchdowns responsible for in a career (83). He finished fourth in voting for the 1990 Heisman and garnered several on-field accolades that season including ACC Player of the Year. Moore was selected by Denver in the 11th round of the 1991 NFL draft and played with the Broncos from 1991-93 before joining the Arizona Cardinals in 1994. He concluded his professional career in 1995 with the CFLs Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Calgary Stampeders. Since retiring as a player, Moore has worked as an enforcement representative for the NCAA (1997-2000), a scout for the XFL (2000-01), associate athletics director at Howard (2001-03), the director of sports partnerships for USA Football (2003-06) and Dean of Students at St. Albans School (2006-10). Moore has one son, Mike, who is a junior defensive end at Virginia. About College Football Playoff The College Football Playoff will begin with the 2014-15 season. The semifinals will match the No. 1 seed vs. No. 4, and No. 2 will face No. 3 in semifinal games that will rotate annually among the Chick-Fil-A Bowl, Cotton Bowl, Orange Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Rose Bowl and Fiesta Bowl. The first semifinals will be January 1, 2015, at the Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl. The first national championship game will be January 12, 2015, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
