COLOURBOX --- Just Give Em Whiskey ... The 1984 classic extravaganza tune from the legendary 4AD label ... One of the earliest tunes to feature extensive use of audio sampling ... The video was produced by two gentlemen who called themselves Deadbeat Salvage. They referred to this video as a fractured flashback (trip #4). Their surnames were Crowe and Monk, but I can find no other information about them online. It is possible they adopted the name Deadbeat Salvage for this video only. They expertly blended clips from science fiction-related films and television shows to the audio samples that were used by Colourbox. They sandwiched all of this between their own original opening-and-closing sequences which also featured video-audio sampling. Colourbox were an English electronic musical group on the 4AD label, releasing a number of records between 1982 and 1987. The band was formed by brothers Martyn & Steve Young, employing guest singers until stellar vocalist Lorita Grahame joined as a permanent member in 1983. Other band members were Debian Curry and Ian Robbins. Their sound was eclectic, drawing from reggae-and-soul influences, beatbox-driven hip-hop rhythms, blue-eyed soul as well as a fusion of far-ranging influences spanning from classic R&B to dub and industrial. Many of their tracks included mild-to-extensive use of sampling. The Young brothers are regarded as topping the list of the forefathers of the technique of sampling. Audio samples (matched with the video samples) in this track are from such diverse films-TV shows as 2001: A Space Odyssey, Futureworld, Planet Of The Apes, Queen From Outer Space, The Andromeda Strain, The Prisoner, Westworld and others I havent been able to identify... although Im sure I spotted something from the original Battlestar Galactica TV series and a commenter said she heard a line from Silent Running uttered by star Bruce Dern. Anyway, if you can identify any of the samples - either video or audio - feel free to leave a comment about them. It appears that the majority of the samples are from Westworld followed by The Prisoner. https://youtube/watch?v=diHy8-lgWQQ
