COMMENTARY This guy, MKM, belongs to that class of politicians referred to as politicians in a hurry who are clueless about why they are in politics in the first place. For full disclosure, most of our politicians belong to this class. They cant admit it, but most of them are aware of their inadequacies as political leaders charged with the responsibilities of providing the leadership required to provide the necessary policies and services to address the needs of the country generally. This guy knows this and that explains his determination to head straight to become the next president of the country. He knows that the problem of our politicians is that they have no problems, which explains the allegation that a former deputy minister detained a woman in his office for nearly a whole day. Busy politicians dont have the time to waste taking women as hostages, as they are always challenged with the responsibilities of their departments. No wonder nothing seems to work in Sierra Leone, an indication that no body seems to be in charge of governing the country. The government is in a free fall position with each participant doing his/her own thing. Personal agendas have taken over the presidents agendas....prosperity et al. It has just come to light that 70 public officials in Malawi have been taken to court for embezzling more than $550 million over a ten year period. This amount represents a third of their national budget. What is significant is that Joyce Banda, the president of Malawi showed courage and determined leadership, to expose the perpetrators of corruption to be brought to justice. She is fighting corruption in a visible way for all the detractors to see. She can no longer sit idly by to see a few corrupt officials continue raping the country. President Koroma should take note of this development unfolding in Malawi under the leadership of a woman president who has no sacred cows in her administration. But dont hold your breath: the wine, song and dance, womanizing and the corruption party will continue until the leaders disclaim their titles to their entitlements. This guy may have nothing to propose in terms of advocating for people centred policies to set him apart from current and past leaders. However, it is unhelpful and contrary to democratic principles for any body within the APC hierarchy to set authoritarian conditions for him to go through the ranks to run as a party candidate. This certainly is an unnecessary reactionary distraction reminiscent of Siaka Stevens days when the APC Central Committee was supreme. Siaka Stevens Central Committee was a rogue enterprise which supported candidates who lacked popular support in their respective communities. The practice of democratic principles has consequences. The party should be opened to those who believe in its ideology and philosophy. Allow him to run and let the members decide if he has what it takes to be the leader of the APC. What do you mean by going through the ranks? Going through the ranks does not necessarily mean the success of a politician. The party is advised to seek qualified candidates whether they belong to any rank or not. Is it another form of bringing back the undemocratic and autocratic central committee through the back door? Who will benefit from this reactionary system if applied?
