COMMISSIONER ANNOUNCES RESOURCE REALIGNMENT NSW Police - TopicsExpress

COMMISSIONER ANNOUNCES RESOURCE REALIGNMENT NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione has announced a functional realignment of resources within NSW Police. In a move aimed at best aligning the organisation for the challenges ahead, the State Crime Command will be positioned in Field Operations under Deputy Commissioner Nick Kaldas, while the Police Transport Command and Traffic and Highway Command specialist functions will now form part of Specialist Operations under Deputy Commissioner Catherine Burn. The Public Affairs Branch will also move to Specialist Operations from the Corporate Services portfolio under Deputy Commissioner David Hudson. The Professional Standards Command will now be permanently allocated to the Corporate Services portfolio. Mr Scipione says the changes are timely following the recent review of significant inroads made by Strike Force Apollo into gun crime and consideration of the whole of police effort including Strike Force Raptor and Operation Spartan. “We are always looking at ways of best utilising our resources and drawing together the work done by local area commands on the ground and our dedicated squads of detectives within the State Crime Command. This closer alignment will build on the achievements of Apollo, Raptor and Spartan. This is a natural transition. “Equally, there is synergy between the specialist functions of the Highway Patrol Command and the Police Transport Command which are both relatively new in a stand-alone sense.” Mr Scipione says the Professional Standards Command has performed well under the auspices of Corporate Services and it’s logical this move now be made permanent. “All future facing organisations change and adapt. These changes position our organisation very well to continue to drive down crime rates across all the major crime categories. Only this week the Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research noted NSW led the country in reducing the rates of robbery and burglary. bocsar.nsw.gov.au/lawlink/bocsar/ll_bocsar.nsf/pages/bocsar_mr_bb89 “We have achieved this success by constantly reviewing what we do and eliminating red tape and other barriers,” he said. These reporting arrangements come into effect Monday August 19th, 2013.
