COMMON CORE STATE STANDARDS – GOOD OR BAD? Unprecedented Opportunity to Hear Both Sides of the Issue Tulsa, Oklahoma - August 5, 2013 – Saturday, August 10, Tulsa 9.12 Project is sponsoring “Understanding Common Core- a Public Forum,” to help bring a clearer understanding to the Common Core State Standards and how they will affect students, teachers and parents. This all day event will be held at Spirit Life Church in Tulsa and is open to all that are interested in learning more about this important issue. “This event brings an unprecedented opportunity to hear those representing both sides of the Common Core initiative;” stated Ronda Vuillemont-Smith, president of Tulsa 9.12 Project, “As far as I know, Understanding Common Core is the only event of its kind in Oklahoma. It will bring together a large number of speakers from diverse backgrounds and opinions, allowing the public to benefit from their areas of expertise. Because the Common Core initiative has created such a firestorm of controversy, we have planned the Forum to allow audience participation in three of the four sessions offered. During each of these sessions, the public will have an opportunity to have their individual questions answered directly by our forum participants.” Understanding Common Core speakers will provide a panel of professional educators including a homeschool mom, Oklahoma State Superintendent of Education, Dr. Janet Barresi, Oklahoma Wesleyan University President, Dr. Everett Piper, former Speaker of the House, Chris Benge, Restore Oklahoma Public Education President, Jenni White, Director of Stand for Children, Brian Hunt and others. “Understanding Common Core – a Public Forum” will be held on Saturday, August 10 at Spirit Life Church, 5345 S. Peoria Ave, Tulsa, from 9 am – 4 pm. Tickets cost $10 and are available at Tulsa912Project. Common Core State Standards are a set of educational standards meant to put students on the same level as their peers in every state. Tulsa 9.12 Project is a conservative grassroots organization whose goal is to educate, empower and activate concerned citizens.
