COMMUNIQUE BY AKWA IBOM STATE YOUTH COUNCIL ON 2015 GOVERNORSHIP POSITION: At the end of a joint meeting of Akwa Ibom State Youth Council State Executive, Chapter Chairmen and secretaries held on 3rd July, 2014 at the State Secretariat, No. 12 IBB Way, Uyo the Principal Officers and members of this frontline youth body deliberated on a wide array of strategic socio-political issues and unanimously adopted the following resolutions: 1. That we acknowledge and heartily commend the on-going transformation agenda of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria – His Excellency, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (GCFR). We extol his pragmatic leadership qualities in steering the affairs of the nation even in the midst of diverse socio-political challenges; and in one accord, urge him to re-contest for the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria come 2015, to enable him consolidate on his landmark agenda for our great nation. 2. That we acknowledge with tremendous satisfaction the uncommon transformation drive of our amiable and youth friendly Governor – His Excellency, Chief (Dr.) Godswill Obot Akpabio (CON). We appreciate his uncommon leadership style which has ushered in the most outstanding infrastructural renaissance in this part of the globe and has transformed our beloved Akwa Ibom State from “land of promise” to a fulfilled business and leisure destination in Africa. Under his dynamic stewardship, Akwa Ibom State has achieved unparallel greatness above her contemporaries. Your purpose driven government has ushered in the most radical transformation ever witnessed in our national history and the comity of States in Nigeria because of the numerous laudable projects spread all over the three (3) senatorial districts, the Ibom International Airport with the longest runway in the country, the Ibom Power Plant, the Tropicana Entertainment Centre, the Pedestrian Walkovers, the E-Library, the Ultra Modern Governor’s Lodge and Governor’s Office, the State banquet Hall equipped with wold class facilities, Le’Meridien Hotel and Golf Resort, the Pipe-Jacking drainage system, free and compulsory Education, the Olympic size International Stadium almost at completion stage, the Three Star Hotel undergoing construction at Ikot Ekpene, the Uyo City beautification projects, the 20th Anniversary Hospital just to mention but a few. All these have been made possible within the past seven (7) years of your administration. We say thank you our pillar of strength. 3. That we acknowledge and deeply appreciate Dr. Godswill Akpabio’s strong actualization of youth inclusion in all strata of governance in the state. His Excellency, since assumption of office in 2007, has blessed us with commissioners, special advisers and Personal Assistants, Chairman and Members of Boards, Executive officers in the ruling party, etc. This is made possible through the Governor’s magnanimity and undiluted love for the youths of Akwa Ibom State. We unanimously pledge our unalloyed support to his continuous delivery of democratic dividends to our people. As Oliver Twist, we further use this medium to humbly seek his Excellency’s approval for the construction of the Ibom Youth House which will serve as a permanent Secretariat for the youths of Akwa Ibom state. It is our believe that this project will be part of a parting gift to the Youths before handing over to his successor in 2015. 4. That we totally endorse and fully support the zoning of the prestigious governorship seat to Eket Senatorial district come 2015 as popularly advocated for by the good people of Akwa Ibom State during the recently concluded town hall meetings held across the Ten Federal Constituencies of Akwa Ibom State. This zoning formular for power rotation is based on a tripod socio-political nature of our state which has seen Uyo and Ikot Ekpene Senatorial districts occupy the Hilltop Mansion between 1999 to 2007 and 2007 to 2015 respectively. We therefore assert without equivocation that it is now the turn for Eket Senatorial District to occupy this exalted office come 2015 and this will serve the interest of justice, equity, fairness and political stability. 5. That as we support Eket Senatorial district we call on Mr. Udom Emmanuel the Secretary to the State Government to rise up and contest the Governorship seat for 2015. We are convinced that as part of this transformation team and having assessed his track records and profile and being an indigene of Eket senatorial district, it is our belief that Mr. Udom Emmanuel will leave no stone unturned in the sustenance of this uncommon transformation. 6. That the council condemn in totality the false publication on Sensor Newspaper dated 3rd July 2014 accusing 24 NYCN chapter chairmen of throwing their support for a certain aspirant from Uyo senatorial district. Council viewed this publication as baseless aimed at dragging the name and image of the Council against the will of the people that the next Governorship seat should be zoned to Eket Senatorial district. 7. That Council calls on members of the public to be ware of impostors who parade themselves as Youth Council executives and members with the sole aim of extorting money from people/politicians promising them of their empty support. 8. Council calls on media houses to engage in investigative journalism as this will ascertain how authentic a piece of information is, especially as it affects the noble image of NYCN. 9. That we have watched with disgust the calculated attempts by some misguided and self seeking politicians to smear with mud the integrity and well revered personality of our amiable and performing Governor, His Excellency, Chief (Dr.) Godswill Akpabio (CON), through sponsored inciting publications in the media. We therefore condemn in its entirety this archaic, rebellious and ill-conceived actions. We the Akwa Ibom Youths are lovers and custodians of peace, harmonious co-existence and unity; and therefore urge every politician to desist from making foul and unwholesome comments that will heat up the polity, but rather play by the rules of the game. Finally, the call for equity is a call for all the youths of Akwa Ibom State to join hands and support Eket senatorial district as they are poised to produce the next governor of Akwa Ibom State come 2015. God has done it before, he will do it again. Let Godswill be done again and again and again. Long Live Akwa Ibom State Youth Council Long Live Akwa Ibom State Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria
