COMPASS Tongue in cheek,,,,,,I have to say that my interest in anthropology has been mostly a self study. Like so many of us, I have made an abundant number of mistakes and like so many, I have learned how not to make the same ones twice. I use to be befuddled by those who never learn that part of the lesson of life. It is amazing to watch folk who are adept at guilt trips and the poor me syndrome and at the same time remain clueless to the carnage they create for themselves. That use to frustrate me beyond words............what changed? I discovered, or accepted that girls are from Venus, boys are from Mars, but so much more than that, I accepted that we do not possess the ability to understand things the same way. And that is a good thing. Change does not come from being the same, it comes from being different, Has the ability to comprehend life and its complexities changed in the last hundred years? We all know it has. Why,,,,,,,,I don think we can blame it on any single factor. Genetics, social influence, who knows. I see the cattle syndrome as a major issue. It is so easy to move with the herd. For instance, a new catch phrase hits the board and, BOOM, it becomes part of our culture. Case in point, a friend was recently castigated for being a hater. There was no hate in the conversation that prompted that comment. If you want to make a difference, be original. In the sixties we went through a social revolution when Americas youth discovered they did not have to follow mom and dads ideals. That backfired when they chose to follow the power brokers of the day and were led down the primrose path. The break from tradition became about revolution, not change. As with all things, we learned from that. We are at a crossroads. There are folk today who will vote a straight ticket. And for no other reason than that is the way it has always been. Its time to grasp the idea that maybe the other guy has some good ideas as well. Its time to stop fighting each other and work together.
