Students will be expected to contribute to all sessions. Session 1: INTER-TEXTS, CONTEXTS - Tuesday 24 September, 11am-1pm, Collaborative Learning Space 1 The session will centre on cinematic authorship and adaptation, exploring Baz Luhrmann’s translation of classic literary texts into cinematic language in William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet (1996) and The Great Gatsby (2013). We shall also look at how Luhrmann’s ‘voice’ gains authority through his role in promoting his films. Session 2: EXTRA-TEXTS, CONTEXTS - Wednesday 25 September, 9:30am-11am, Collaborative Learning Space 1 This session will focus on Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette (2006) and Coppola’s performance of the ‘commerce of auteurism’.
